Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has sent a congratulatory message to his teammates after their 2-0 win over Mauritius in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Stade Anjalay, Belle Vue Maurel on Sunday to book their place in the finals scheduled for Gabon early next year.
Two second-half goals from stand-in captain Andre Ayew and Chelsea midfielder Christian Atsu were enough to undo a resilient Les Dodos, making Ghana the only country to qualify for the tournament on seven consecutive times since 2006.
“I am happy with what my teammates have done, and I want to use this opportunity to congratulate them for qualifying to the Afcon,” Gyan was quoted as saying byFootballghana.com
“I would have wished to be there but I am glad that they got the job done. We are the Black Stars of the world and I know we will continue to make Ghana proud,” he added.
Gyan, 30, was excused by coach Avram Grant to fully recover from a knee injury he picked up in Chinese Super League game with Shanghai SIPG last month.
Gyan is the topscorer of Ghana with 48 goals after 95 caps.
